Poison Oak leads to insomnia

The poison oak that I spoke of in an earlier posting was showing signs of planing to be pretty bad- blistering and such. So rather than spend the rest of spring break miserably trying not to scratch, I decided to go to the doctor and get steroids. Prednisone does wonders. I have had the good fortune to develop an allergy to poison oak only in the last few years, but now I react to it with a vengeance. Oh well. Serves me right for laughing at people all those years. The downside to prednisone is that it will keep you up. This is a great improvement to being kept awake by the itchies, but now I'm not sure what to do with my useless wakefulness.
I'm thinking that a round of steroids should make it on the first aid kit list for any backpacking trips lasting more than a few days. I wonder if a doctor would have a problem prescribing them for a problem that has not yet occurred.
